What is TGIF?

We’ve all resonated with underdog stories in sport. It’s time to root for the story of an underdog sport in India – football. Developed by executive producer – Johnson Kanjirathingal, Travellers Guide to Indian Football (TGIF) captures the zeitgeist of an understated movement that is at the cusp of explosion. TGIF is the story of the people & communities who create Indian football culture.

A documentary-series exploring diversity & passion for football through the people who carried the torch for Indian football in the past, passed the baton on to caretakers of the present and the institutions nurturing our future.

Why are we creating this series?

Indian football is at a coming of age moment in the roller-coaster of its history.  The ISL completed 10 seasons, the I-League is a pathway to the top-tier and women’s football setting new records. State-level tournaments in Sikkim (since 2023), in Gujarat (since 2024) & the recently announced Super League Kerala (2024) along with nationwide grassroots programmes  are signs of the potential that can be harnessed from football culture across communities.

If there was ever a time to tell the story of Indian football, it is now. And TGIF has a whole country to explore!
